The Winery at Mercer House was founded in 2007 in Lexington, South Carolina.
Our mission is to produce "Hyperlocal" quality wines made from 50 varieties of Native Pepulus grapes as well as a wide variety fruits and vegetables.
Known as "Goût de Terroir" (Taste of the Earth), each of our 5 vineyards has it's own unique micro-climate which contributes to the subtle differences with each vintage. To help distinguish the vineyards, and out of respect of the lives that influenced our own, each was named for family members and pets that have touched our lives.
Our mission extends to producing added-value products including Saba, Extra Virgin Grapeseed Oil, Grapeseed Flour and finally Vinegar, Balsamic and various Wine Jellies including our popular Jalapeño Wine Jelly!
We believe that maintaining the health qualities of muscadines starts in the vineyard. Our work is never finished as we refuse to use any chemicals including pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or fertilizers.
We invite our guest to visit our secluded winery and enjoy our modest hospitality as we continue to develop what nature allows.
Our latest release is a 2015 vintage "Shakori." This exceptionally great wine is the result of years attempting to reproduce the most authentically accurate, First North American, wine dating over 15,000+ years!
Shakori is produced from a 'field blend' of native white and bronze grapes, 100% chemical free, fermented "on the skins" (referred to as Amber wine), non-filtered and served very young at room temperature.
The results are spiced with earthen honey and dried fruit flavors. Rippled with citric minerality laced on sweet vanilla-spice and orange-cream notes, infused with intense floral flavors and bristling tea-leaf tannins.
