Once upon a time there was a winery called Adora, owned by three business partners. When the three business partners sold to 8th Generation, one of the partners purchased this property, taking along with him clippings of vines to start a new winery. Unfortunately, shorty after ripping out the apple orchard and replanting 10 acres of vines, he went into foreclosure.
This property then sat abandoned for 7 years! No water, no pruning, nothing…
Pieter Smits came out on a trip from Edmonton to visit his parents who own Sonoran Winery. He fell in love with this property and decided to purchase it. His friends and family all said; “what are you thinking? The only good thing about that place is the back door!!”
Pieter quickly started working hard day and night to restore the winery, and bring back life into the vines. He built the winery on recycle, repurpose, and reuse.
The house was a mess when he started working on it, being built in the depression with no prior renovations, he quickly learned it was true, the only thing good about the place was the back door.

When Pieter leveled out the house 5 feet of sawdust came crashing down on him that he had to shovel out by hand. During this time, he started to question his sanity, as his keys constantly went missing!
He ended up discovering a hole in the far corner wall of the house, where a crows nest resided, in amongst many shiny things were all of Pieter’s keys.
Pieter carefully moved the crow’s nest to the back of the vineyard thinking she would bugger off. With a mind of her own the crow decided she would not leave, and still taunts and mocks Pieter to this day, waiting for the perfect moment to steal back the keys to her back door.
